About MDU Services Ltd

Uniquely among mutual defence organisations in the UK, most individual medical members of the MDU have a professional indemnity policy as an integral and important part of their membership (excludes student and some other classes of membership).

MDU Services Ltd (MDUSL) is a wholly owned subsidary of the MDU. MDUSL was established specifically to arrange and administer the insurance policy which is issued by and underwritten by SCOR UK Company Limited and by International Insurance Company of Hannover Limited.

Regulated by the Financial Services Authority

MDUSL is an insurance intermediary, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in respect of insurance mediation activities only. MDUSL is entered in the Financial Services Authority's Register, register number 312054. You can check MDUSL's registration on the FSA Register or by contacting the FSA on 0845 606 1234.

The FSA is an independent non-governmental body, given statutory powers by the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

The main aims of the FSA are:

  • Maintain confidence in the UK financial system
  • Promote public understanding of the financial system
  • Secure the right degree of protection for consumers
  • Help reduce financial crime

How this helps you

To obtain FSA authorisation, MDUSL has had to go through a strict application process to ensure it meets the high standards set. This includes demonstrating that it treats customers fairly, is open and honest and has the necessary financial strength to meet its obligations. Ongoing regulation helps ensure that these high standards are maintained.

The FSA helps to enforce customers' rights and achieve a fair deal. More information can be found on the FSA website.
