GP interview skills course

This one-day course is held in London and is suitable for all doctors applying to salaried GP or GP partnership positions. A maximum of 6 participants ensures full participation from everyone.

The aim of the course is to equip candidates with the skills to deal with the range of questions and issues raised at GP interviews. It also covers business and primary care issues including the GP contract, pay, practice-based commissioning and many more.

Through interactive group discussions, personal practice, listening and mock interviews, candidates will have a unique opportunity to develop their interview skills in an encouraging non-threatening environment.

Topics covered include:

• Presentation skills
• Introductory and motivation questions (take me through your CV, tell me about yourself, why this practice)
• Skills questions (communication, team playing, leadership, management, strengths)
• Questions asking for examples of situations demonstrating core skills and competencies
• Questions on teaching, training, audit and research
• Negative questions (biggest mistake, main weakness)
• Pre-interview visits, body language, questions to ask at the end and much more…

Cost: £239 for MDU members (normal price £299) to include refreshments, lunch and all handouts.

GPST interview skills course

This one-day course has been specifically structured towards the GPVTS/ GPST recruitment process and is designed to give candidates plenty of practice for stage 2 and 3. A maximum of 12 participants ensures attendees get personal attention and plenty of opportunity to practice.

During the course candidates will learn how to:

• prepare for stage 2 (SJTs, MCQs, EMQs)
• perform confidently in role plays and simulated consultations
• approach and stand out in group discussions
• handle stage 3 task prioritisation questions
• deal with other important aspects of stage 3 selection

The courses are run by experienced tutors with in-depth knowledge of communication, NHS issues and in particular the GPVTS and GPST training and recruitment.
