The MDU 2008 Communication Skills for Doctors Workshops

Good communication skills are essential for maintaining a high standard of patient care and the success of many doctor-patient relationships depends on our ability to communicate effectively.

MDU data shows that miscommunication is a feature in a large proportion of clinical negligence cases; communication skills training is therefore a key preventive measure in reducing the risk of litigation in medical practice.

The MDU Communication Skills for Doctors Workshop can help you develop your skills. This one-day, fully interactive workshop explores alternative and practical ways of thinking about interaction with patients and areas covered include:

  • examples and consequences of both good and poor communication
  • practical models for doctor-patient communication
  • rapport building
  • medico-legal and risk management advice

Who will be speaking?

The MDU Communication Skills for Doctors Workshops will be run in association with Healthcare Performance Limited and led by qualified coach Dr Emma Sedgwick MBBS, BSc, MRCPsych, DCH, MBA, NLP Coach. Dr Sedgwick will be joined by a doctor from the MDU medico-legal advisory team.
