Dental care professionals

The DDU has developed a membership package especially for dental care professionals (DCPs).

By July 2008, everybody directly involved in clinical dental care will need to be registered with the General Dental Council in order to continue practising in their chosen field.

If you are a dental nurse or dental technician, and want to practise in one of these roles in the UK, then you will soon need to be registered with the GDC. As the regulatory body of the dental profession in the UK, the GDC's role is to protect patients and set high standards of dental practice and conduct.

GDC registration will mean that you are far more likely to be held personally accountable in the event of complaints or claims for clinicical negligence. You may become involved in professional or disciplinary action or even criminal allegations, either individually or jointly with other members of your team.

The DDU advises DCPs that is is in your best interests to make sure you are insured. You will also need access to independent dento-legal advice and support.
